Indian Mud Run obstacle races, mud run, and OCR information, distance, cost, dates, calendar, discounts, obstacles, reviews, and more
The Indian Mud run is a very challenging obstacle course race through beautiful hills alongside spectacular rock formations. The Indian Mud Run is an official Obstacle Course Racing World Championship qualifier with the top 5 in each age group men and women qualifying for age group divisions and the top 3 overall men and women qualifying for Pro division.
The 2017 race will feature Dewayne Montgomery “Coach Pain” as the start line motivator. New in 2017 the Indian Mud Run will offer 2 race lengths and a new start and finish line area. We also have a 3 lap option (20 miles-150 obstacles) and all 3 lap finishers earn an authentic American Indian made arrow upon completion.
The competitive waves will be 6 plus miles long with 50 plus obstacles. The non-competitive waves will be around a 5k length and offer close to 35 obstacles. The terrain is an obstacle itself and the course will challenge you with world class obstacles.
Some of the obstacles include 20’ cargo net climb, Swivel ladder climb, natural rock climb with ropes, steep hills, Net climb over ravine, Cliff climb on rope ladder, Log traverse, 165’ water slide, 20’ high climbing wall, mud pit and many more. The competitive course is mandatory obstacle completion with bands. The competitive course will have the above obstacles plus the weaver, Rig, walls, rappel, and end with the ¾ mile gauntlet of Skull valley, Irish table, Rope traverse, 40 foot monkey bars, Dragons back, Rope climb, Rig, Half pipe wall and slide into pond, Destroyer and Wall hanger. 4 of the gauntlet obstacles are signature obstacles from past Obstacle Course Racing World Championships and are used with permission from the obstacles owners.
The top 3 finishers in each 5 year age group will receive an authentic American Indian made Tomahawk but you must run in the competitive waves to be eligible for the Tomahawk. The top 15 in each age group will have their name on the back of the following year’s shirt. After the race you get a free can beer (not draft) and a free ride on our Blob pillow. Racers also get a cool medal, and a beautiful shirt. Shirts include the top 500 placers from the previous year’s race. We also have a separate kid’s course.
Our mission is to provide the best mud run possible. We strive to have the best course, a great shirt, a cool finisher’s medal, fun post-race entertainment and good food all at a fair price. We have an awesome course with spectacular rock formations, great views, super obstacles and easy access with a 4 lane highway less than a quarter mile away. Some of our best obstacles are very spectator friendly so bring a camera, some friends and a big smile.

A must go for any racer-try the chiefs challenge!
Gnarly, brutal, engaging, tough, fun, did I mention tough?
Great use of terrain, obstacles were legit! 85 is a bit inflated because the terrain were some of the obstacles, but trust me there are many more packed in than other races I have run! The 7.25 mile 10k (ha!) was a lot of fun. Ran it 3x for the chiefs challenge. Lots of support on course during the first 2 laps. Almost no one on course during lap 3.
Loved the ingenuity and creativity of these obstacles!
Festival area was electric!
Loved it and you will too! I will be back next year as well!
Indian MUST Run
Indian Mud Run is, by far, one of the greatest OCR events in the US!
If you want to get challenged while also having the tome of your life, then don’t hesitate and sign up for this race next year. You won’t regret it.
The atmosphere, the community, the obstacles… simply pure awesomeness!
Definitely on board for 2022!
IMR - Epic yet again
The 2021 Indian Mud Run was an epic race. From the terrain to the obstacles to Hubie and the crew that put this event together, all was great. The course was a little longer than advertised, about 7.5 miles, with over 3K feet of elevation. Sorry I can't be more specific but my garmin doesn't like going under water.
Innovative obstacles like the red rig (cargo net to mini valkyrie to cargo net to old standbys like the what seems like half mile long water slide make this race a great attraction, but being able to spend time with the legend himself, Hubie, is even better. I'll ba back next year for IMR X, the tenth anniversary. I can't wait to see what's in store.
Amazing
I do these races for the obstacles, and Indian Mud Run has all the best obstacles! I never realized that Ohio has such beautiful scenery. It's worth the trip from anywhere to experience this race.
This was the most challenging race mentally and physically I have ever completed. There is nothing like this happening in the US. Gnarly terrain including tons of natural obstacles plus some of the most difficult grip and technique-intensive obstacles in the sport. Top it all off with an atmosphere and community feeling you know about love about OCR but only that much better and you get a weekend that will change you forever! This one is a MUST DO!
Best OCR Race
Hands down toughest race I've ever experienced! Every year it gets better and better. And this year was my sixth time. Very well ran and put together. 85 obstacles!!! If you've never done this don't let another year old by, do it!!!!
Outstanding! This is what an OCR should be. Not a glorified trail run... but a race that was determined by grit and obstacles. I came in hoping to prepare for OCRWC. I left feeling accomplished. Do yourself a favor and take a break from big box OCRs and do this race!
I was only a spectator and all I have is good things to say about this race. I really appreciated being able to touch base with my racers to check in and make sure there was nothing they needed. Everyone was so friendly and we will be there next year. Great work IMR and Hubie
Best voluntold decision yet
This race was the most brutal yet amazing race I have ever done and I can't believe this was my first time. The course was so challenging but yet so beautiful as well. I will be back in 2022 to complete many of those obstacles that I failed in 2021 and I am bringing some friends!
A Field of Dreams
Let’s cut to the chase for people with short attention spans. Just do it and you won’t regret it. How a local race can afford to have such a volume of substantial obstacles is up to the IRS to figure out but to the athlete, it’s like “A field of dreams”!
Looking at the event pictures you might wonder if it was trick photography but rest assured what you see is what you get. That gigantic water slide in woods is no joke and worth the price of admission alone. The terrain reminded me of West Virginia with elevation and the numerous ropes and ladders to climb the landscape was transcending.
I won’t break down the 85 obstacles they had on tap for us this year but the majority are real obstacles or substantial terrain to qualify as one. It would be to your advantage to have excellent strength to body weight ratio. You’ll be required many times to pull your body weight up and over various walls or bars and tap into your inner ninja warrior, grip strength alter ego. The size and number of lanes per obstacle is large enough to prevent backup.
They do weigh obstacle completion above running speed. Just don’t be surprised to see people hanging out at an obstacle for a substantial amount of time as a tactical advantages in the race results. Possibly they could consider a 15 minute penalty instead for failure of completion to keep things moving along but their format (somewhat similar to Savage) is better than burpees (Spartan) in my opinion.
The registration, parking ($10 w/shuttle or $25 preferred), packet pickup, infield area (food, vendors, music), and ceremonies (from the national anthem to Race wave encouragement to trophy awards) were fantastic. There is a very open vibe and they let you play and try the obstacles at packet pickup the day before the race.
You’ve, probably like myself, raced many OCR races. I’ve been blown away and underwhelmed at the offerings. This falls into the blown away category. Since they don’t have to be a portable circuit that moves from town to town; they have been able to maximize every aspect. The semi-permanent fixtures that the line the property just can’t been replicated by the big names.
I look forward to returning and seeing whoever happens to read this review! I only wish they had more than 1 event per year. Thanks!
