Course Description:
You can expect some of the traditional obstacles like walls and cargo nets, but that’s about it. We’ll have plenty of new and different physical and mental challenges that will require good strategy and teamwork. While we’d like to keep most of it secret until event day to keep the adventure at a maximum, here’s a little preview.
The courses have approximately 15-20 challenges/obstacles. Of these, some are physical, some are mental and some will be a combination of both. While we don’t want to give too much away, here are some examples:
Low Ropes Course
Coasteering
Creek Crawl
Take Aim (Slingshots)
Laurel Maze
Tangram Puzzle
Disc Toss
Lego Challenge
Finish Wall
Hopefully, that will be enough to wet your appetite and get you thinking! We prefer to think about the event in terms of time and not distance. The actual distance will vary depending on the choices you make during the event and the number of challenges and obstacles you choose to attempt. You can estimate between 4 and 6 miles depending on your route choice to clear the entire course.
Aid Stations:
We will provide some water in the Arena in select locations. Please plan to bring whatever else you may feel that you will need to last the entire 3 hours. We will also have food and beverages available for purchase outside the Arena for all.
Awards:
There will be an Awards Ceremony for competitive waves.
There are three categories - Coed, All Female and All Male.
Spectators:
There will be a festive atmosphere for family and friends who are not participating. There will also be some areas specifically set up for spectators. Both are free!
Parking:
Parking will be $10 per car.
Post Party:
There will be free beer and music for all competitors. We will also have food and beverages available for purchase.
Other:
In developing the Krell Adventure Games, we aimed to create the next step in obstacle racing, and something that could appeal to everyone.
As opposed to having a set course, you can choose how much of the course you want to do, how fast you want to go and how hard you want to push yourself (and your teammate). It’s kind of like a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book where you are the main characters.
Unlike some races, we will not put you through electric shocks, but we will challenge you both physically and mentally. The team that wins may not necessarily be the fittest.
One change we have initiated since last year is that we are now allowing kids to race with a parent (or guardian)! This will be a great way for the whole family to experience the event together.
Krell Adventure Games will be donating a portion of each team’s registration fee to a Foundation formed in honor of Eric Speicher to help fight childhood brain tumors. Last year, we helped to raise money for Eric, a local young teenage boy, who was diagnosed in 2011 with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Unfortunately, Eric passed away in December but his parents are committed to helping other children with the disease and have formed the Foundation in his honor.
