Last Week in OCR – May 1st Edition

By |May 2nd, 2016|

This is the race SO many of you have been waiting for since the season kicked off. While Saturday racers had to rely on the insanity of the course itself, Sunday racers were treated to proof that Norm Koch has indeed made some dirty deals with a particular underground entity. Rain, wind and cold took out many a racer on this already incredibly challenging course, and even without all that on Saturday, when it came to numbers on the UB, over 800 started, but less than half finished.

Last Week in OCR: Tough Mudder Kicks off 2016 Season

By |April 18th, 2016|

If we needed any proof that the OCR season is underway, the last couple of weeks has surely proven it. Internationally, some of our favorite races peppered the globe, with London South England Dirty Dozen, Sydney Australia Raw Challenge, Madrid Spain Farinato Race, and Munich Germany Spartan Sprint. In the US, we were no slouches ourselves, hitting both coasts and plenty of states in between, our community took the country by storm and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Warrior Dash is Vital to OCR, and to Me. Here’s Why.

By |April 15th, 2016|

Year-in and year-out, Warrior Dash proves its worth as being one of the best mud runs for beginners, as I wrote in this article on that subject last year. One could argue their obstacles and event is somewhat formulaic, and that's exactly what I want! When I'm recommending a race for first-timers or fun-seekers - whether to millions of people* or a group of parents and teachers at my daughter's school, I want to know they are going to get a safe, fun, experience that I know each and every one of them can handle. Period.

Last Week in OCR: Mud, Cold, Swimming, and More Mud

By |April 11th, 2016|

If there was any question as to whether or not the OCR season has jumped off – there isn’t after this last weekend! From coast to coast and across the world, events arrived in full force, even leaving athletes in some areas having to make the difficult decision as to which they would attend! Today we will take a look at some of your tried and true US favorites, as well as a quick peek at an amazing event unlike any other we have seen in Glasgow, Scotland, where they may give you wings, but what you really needed was gills! Read on…

Race Recap: Warrior Dash SoCal – Are They Even Trying Anymore?

By |March 22nd, 2016|

In 2012, my wife Anne and a couple of her friends did a Warrior Dash as one of her first obstacle course races. At the time, I was sidelined with an injury, and although I've done dozens of different OCRs in the intervening years, I had never done a Warrior Dash before last weekend. As a result, I was excited to give this one a try, as I've heard for years about Warrior Dash being one of "the big three" and the "gateway drug to OCR".

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA: Day 13

By |February 29th, 2016|

This morning a man, Ken, just happened to walk by a pit stop and said, “Hey! Are you walking across the country? I just heard about you on the radio!” Then continued to share hydration techniques. Then, this afternoon high schoolers Chris and Ricco, joined Adam walking and asked Adam to sign their track shoes for good luck in this upcoming season. So cool!

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA: Day 12

By |February 27th, 2016|

Adam was a new man today after three days of rest. He started the day off strong walking from 4 am to 8:45 am and accomplishing 15 miles at a 15-minute mile pace. This was a huge improvement from his average twenty-minute mile pace four days ago. Adam has been setting small goals for himself to have tiny victories throughout the day. His overall goal for today was 40 miles with his pain at or below a five out of ten.

Adam Kimble’s Run Across USA: Days 9-11

By |February 26th, 2016|

Today was a day of rest for Adam. He finished the day yesterday at sunset and his pain level in his left shin was at a 10 out of 10. He connected with his doctor and was advised to get rest. So, Adam and Karen decided to have Adam rest for two days to see how he feels after getting some rest. His health is the main priority right now.
