As I’ve talked about before, everyone comes to an event with a different goal in mind. Some people would be happy to finish, while others are going for speed, and still, others are competing against each other to go even faster. In the Tough Mudder community, the ambassadors have started recognizing Mudders that Assist 100 Mudders through at least one obstacle during a single event.
I’ve done Tough Mudders, but this one takes the mud cake. On a random whim thanks to a friend, I was convinced to do the Toughest Mudder rather than just the regular Tough Mudder. Joking aside, I can say it was the absolute hardest race I’ve done to date.
Toughest Mudder the 8-hour Tough Mudder event took place over the weekend outside of Philadelphia as the series made it's Northeast stop. The race began at midnight and after 8:00 am finishers began to cross the line. Many favorites from the World's Toughest Mudder community came out to the event in the hopes to gain contender status (25 miles) for World's Toughest Mudder.
It finally happened, after 5 seasons in obstacle course racing, I finally made my way to a Tough Mudder event. For years now I've been saying the only event they put on that I am interested in is the annual World's Toughest Mudder but this year they changed that with the introduction of their 6 race America's Toughest Mudder series. After the "South" event, I can now say that I am officially onboard with Mudder Nation.
This year Tough Mudder has introduced a new race series called “Toughest” Mudder. These are meant to be mini-World’s Toughest Mudders and can bridge the gap between 10-mile Tough Mudder’s and the 24-hour World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM).
One of the joys of running a new event series that promises to bring obstacles to a new level and enhance the competition of the event like we haven’t seen before is that we don’t know what we’re getting into. It’s like jumping off a 37ft cliff: it’s scary, but we’ll survive somehow. As a data scientist and detail-oriented person, however, I try to maximize our performance by controlling what I can control.
The official rules for Toughest Mudder have been announced! We have less than 40 days until the first event, so now we’re shaping up for the competitions. It’s time to look in detail at the prize structure and what they’re offering/requiring for Toughest and World’s Toughest this year. Let’s jump into it.
A couple months ago Tough Mudder announced a new offering to their lineup of races. The latest addition to the Tough Mudder family is Toughest Mudder and is set to be a stepping stone for those looking to race World's Toughest Mudder. Toughest Mudder is an eight-hour night obstacle race that bridges the gap between the traditional Tough Mudder race and the grueling 24-hour World's Toughest Mudder.
