By |July 9th, 2015|

Recently Spartan Race Headquarters announced their annual Spartan Race Combine will take place this weekend in Palmerton, PA on July 14 & 15th. This combine is designed to benchmark an elite group of Spartan competitors with vigorous tests such as the rope climb and bucket carry and ultimately better understand their training needs ahead of this year’s World Championships in Lake Tahoe on October 3rd and 4th. Spartan Pro team members including Brakken Kraker and Orla Walsh, and a select group of Spartan Elite from around the globe have been invited to participate in this event.

Last Week in OCR: Muddy Mountains to Hot Desert Races

By |June 30th, 2015|

Last weekend was one of the most action packed weekends of the summer for OCR. With the final Death Race happening in Pittsfield, Vermont, Toughest 24 in Sweden, Savage Race in Pennsylvania, and Spartan Race in both Utah and Minnesota. For the competitive obstacle racer there were tons of events to choose from.

The Death Race is Dead. Long Live the Death Race

By |June 29th, 2015|

While not a full 6-feet under, 6 Death Racers (or was it 7) were buried alive. Read that again - buried alive. Eulogies from their dear friends wafted through the air as these select finishers were laid to rest in actual plywood caskets laid in the ground, that were nailed shut and even covered by dirt for good measure.

Race Recap: Spartan Race Super Boston

By |June 27th, 2015|

This was my first Spartan Super of the year and would complete my first Trifecta for 2015 of the year, I was very excited. I arrived to the Spartan off-site parking for the Boston Super at about 1 am after driving home for BattleFrog and cleaning myself and clothing up and then driving from NY to the Massachusetts and it was raining cats and dogs and continued to pour almost all night. I ended up getting about four hours sleep and then made my way to the event venue.

Race Racap: Spartan Race Super Boston

After patiently waiting years for Spartan Race to bring their Super event to New England, we were finally rewarded. We were close last year with a pre-registration for the event but it never materialized. However, many New Englanders were thrilled when one showed up on this year’s schedule. Along with the Vermont Beast and the Fenway Park/Boston Sprints scheduled for later in the year, it was our first opportunity to add that elusive blue pizza slice to our multi-colored all New England Trifecta medals.

Race Recap: Spartan Race Breckenridge Beast

By |June 24th, 2015|

What better place to hold a Spartan race than in the gorgeous mountains of Breckenridge, CO? The Beaver Run Lodge was the host site of this Beast and Sprint weekend. With elevation reaching 11, 238 ft. and temperatures that vary by 30 degrees from night to day, runners were challenged not only by the course, but by Mother Nature. T

Plan A Racecation

By |June 17th, 2015|

Recently, my wife and I took our first real racecation – a vacation featuring a race that we wanted to run. We’ve traveled for races before, but almost always to locations that are easily accessible by car, and then we spent a couple of nights before heading home. Las Vegas, Phoenix and Monterey are great examples of this type of close travel, and they tend to be a very fun weekend.
