By |February 7th, 2018|

Rachael George’s story is one of triumph and courage. She decided to make a huge life-changing decision and have weight loss surgery. From that point, she signed up for her first Tough Mudder in November of 2015 and hasn’t looked back since

Three take aways the SoCal Spartan

By |February 3rd, 2018|

This past weekend, I raced the SoCal Spartan in Chino, California. Prado Regional Park was a beautiful venue, the weather was great, and everyone was so excited to kick off the U.S. 2018 racing season for the Spartan Series.

Badass Women of OCR – Michelle Ford

By |January 31st, 2018|

Michelle Ford is a true inspiration to us all. I watched in November as she came in third place at World's Toughest Mudder. The entire time that I saw her on the live footage she was smiling, happy and looked like she was having a great time. It was her positive and genuine spirit that made me want to feature her in this article series - not to mention the fact that she is a genuine badass.

Badass Women of OCR – Lisa Nondorf

By |January 24th, 2018|

Lisa Nondorf had been brought to my attention before as someone that needed to be profiled for this series. She has a background in competitive gymnastics and diving, which provides her with a versatile skill set for the OCR (mental grit, discipline, and stamina). In this, her third season of OCR she has been able to podium 8 out of 10 races.

Core Strength and OCR

By |January 11th, 2018|

Core Strength and obstacle course racing go hand in hand.  A strong core is necessary to complete many of the obstacles we encounter during a race and it even plays a role in our running form.  By improving our core strength we can improve our race day performance and decrease our risk of injury.

Avoiding Burnout During the OCR Season

By |January 8th, 2018|

Athlete burnout is very common in the world of obstacle course racing. With events taking place year round, there is often not enough time to step away from the sport to decompress and refocus. As we begin the new year and a new race season, let's take a moment to look at the risk factors for burnout and develop a plan of action in the event you experience any of these symptoms.

The Road to Iceland with Ryan Berger – Open Ultra Finisher

By |December 28th, 2017|

When you hear about an adventure or race, often times it is the elite or masters finishers that get the most attention. I am not going to lie, they are some pretty amazing people, and however, I like to hear all sides of the story. An Ultra event is an epic adventure no matter what category you are in as a racer / OCR athlete, and for the Iceland race, I wanted to get multiple perspectives from those that ran it.

The OCR Beast Grip Strength Challenge: Do You Even Hang?

By |December 21st, 2017|

If you haven’t tended to sore hands, massaged burning forearms or checked Instagram in December, you probably haven’t heard of one of the most grueling training challenges proposed to OCR enthusiasts. The brainchild of OCR Beast founder and coach, “Spartan” Spencer Mahoney, the Dead Hang Challenge focuses on developing improved grip strength and of course, those epic “Popeye forearms.”

Facility Review: Urban Warrior, Portland, OR

By |December 15th, 2017|

Obstacle course racing and American Ninja Warrior, well, the fitness lifestyle in general, continues to explode throughout the world. Your typical athlete role model isn’t just the 300 professional football player or seven-foot basketballer. Your neighborhood gym no longer exclusively offers grimy treadmills and bulky weights. We are at the cutting edge of a complete fitness shake-up, and to be completely honest, I love it!
