Personally, I used to spend a lot of my time Indoors...but that was before obstacle course racing (OCR) came into my life. Now I spend an inordinate amount of my time Outdoors. Building courses, volunteering at races and running events. Why? Because OCR events happen Outdoors...of course!
World's Toughest Mudder is only three weeks away. With the majority of training complete, it is time to talk about race nutrition. Most have already tuned up their nutrition plans for this year's race but if you are a bit behind or taking on WTM for the first time we are here to help you. Here goes my Who, What, When, Where, and How’s to for WTM race nutrition:
While many are still recovering from their OCR World Championships hangover obstacle racing isn't taking a break. Over the past weekend, races were held all around the world.
Warrior Dash concluded its seventh season with more than 2.5 million Warriors since the event’s inception in 2009. Warrior Dash had over 30 international event locations this year, challenging athletes on the 5K obstacle courses across the United States, Denmark and Mexico.
Founded by Dan “Nitro” Clark (of American Gladiators fame), the Gladiator Rock ‘n Run was voted by mudrunguide.com readers as “Best Small OCR Series” in 2014 and noted as a “Regional Powerhouse” by Mudrunguide founder Brett Stewart in his Best OCR Events Period article.
Last year Max King and Kimber Mattox took home the top prizes at Warrior Dash World Championships. Both came into obstacle course racing from the track and field as well as trail running worlds. In the past year, both gained more OCR experience. This year they are back and looking for a repeat win.
In OCR, there is nothing like the fall race at The Battlegrounds. The reason for this is there is not another venue with a winery onsite! This puts a certain buzz in the atmosphere for the events especially since the winery caters the race with food, beer and wine. Also, prior to this event, they added about five obstacles plus a wreck bag series that was about 200 yards long.
While it may have been a surprise to many in the United States when Zuzana Kocumova from the Czech Republic crossed the finish line first in the Spartan Race World Championships. For Europeans, her finish was less of a surprise. Kocumova recently won the Spartan Race European Championships a few weeks ago; we did a little digging to find out more about this 36-year-old.

The first ever Chicago area Battlefrog was held on September 19th at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. The winter ski resort located about an hour’s drive from Chicago and Milwaukee provided excellent terrain for what is becoming known as one of the toughest OCR series around.
