The Warrior Dash World Championship returns for a second year on Saturday, October 10, 2015. The event is hosted at Milky Way Farms, moving east after last year’s event in California. The Warrior Dash World Championship is an obstacle course race where international athletes sprint through 3.6 miles of terrain and trails to battle for their share of $100,000 and the ultimate bragging rights.
Last week I enjoyed the opportunity to experience Savage Race for the very first time. I have heard many great things about Savage Race but wanted to experience it for myself. Although there was one small obstacle or hurdle rather. Savage Race hasn't made it to the west coast yet, so I packed my bags headed to the lone star state of Grand Ole Texas to see why Savage Race boasts they have, " The World's Best Obstacles.
Spartan Super returned to Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, New Jersey. I can’t speak for the weather on Saturday, September 12, but Sunday’s event was near perfect conditions with plenty of sunshine. The Spartan Village was a great setup at the base of the mountain with plenty of vendors. For a Sunday event, there were a large numbers or racers on the course.
Let's talk about the brands that are the bedrock of OCR. As the sport has grown over the last 3-4 years, one thing has stood out: there are a few brands that are the biggest and best - the Chili's or Chipotle of the sport; you always know (within reason) what you're going to get when you show up. You're not going to be (too) surprised with the event, as there reputation of quality precedes them.
All of these events are big on fun, and in descending order of difficulty. WIPEOUTRUN is the easiest, all the way down to Spartan Race Sprint as the hardest "beginner-friendly" races. If you're looking for a good reason to get muddy and experience an actual mud run/obstacle course race with guys and gals, our best suggestion is to start with Warrior Dash. Yeah, we know you're the adventurous type - but recommend getting at least one OCR under your belt before you move up to Spartan Race Sprint; even the short distance is pretty darn difficult with mandatory obstacle completion (the only one on this list that requires it)!
Labor Day has come and gone; it can mean only one thing, championship race season. With four reoccurring obstacle course racing championships from different companies and one brand new championship event, it raises many questions amongst the athletes of the OCR world.
