OCR is about competition with others, with yourself, and against the clock. We battle Father Time as we age, Mother Nature out on the course, and at the end of the day we are all FAMILY. From the Mud Run Guide family to yours, thank you so much for bringing your joy and passion to the sport we all love. Obstacle course racing and mud runs have changed so many of your lives, and has absolutely transformed ours as well.
New for 2016, the OCR Short Course Championships will pit athletes against one another on a fast-paced, obstacle-packed 3 kilometer course. The greatest combination of speed, strength, and technique will be paramount on a course that will leave little room for error in order for athletes to claim the title of World Champion.
WTM is the Vatican City of The Community, the gathering place where people shed their regular existences to express their extraordinary resolve. 1200 runners toe the line in Las Vegas, where our head deacon, Sean Corvelle, provides us with a little more insight into ourselves we haven’t thought of.
With World’s Toughest Mudder in its 2nd year in Las Vegas (5th year overall), the inevitable question athletes that went to one and not the other is how did 2015 compare to 2014? While the terrain was very similar, the challenges faced were very different. Here is a quick rundown for those that did one year and not the other.
Once a year these two worlds collide in an international competition called World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM). Even if you are not an ultra-distance OCR athlete, WTM needs to be on your bucket list of races, and here is why…
The Lake Las Vegas WTM course is pretty similar to the landscape from a particular movie from my childhood - the desert of Tatooine. It's actually quite remarkable how the "resort section" of Lake Las Vegas has lush green colf courses replete with water fountains, finely manicured lawns wrapping the easments from hotel to hotel. As soon as you reach the cul-de-sac at the top of the hill and enter Tough Mudder land there's a dramatic shift in scenery
The Tough Mudder crew set up shop this year in one of the most amazing locations imaginable. The 10+ mile course was literally along the New York Harbor. Mudders spent the weekend with a little less mud than what you would expect at a typical event; however the views of the Statue of Liberty and The New York skyline made this an unforgettable event.
On October 17, 2015, the best obstacle racers in the world came together to battle it out in Oregonia, OH, USA at the premiere event in OCR. The nearly 10 mile course was littered with obstacles of all shapes and sizes, some natural and many man-made; sure to test the mettle of even the most resolute and talented athlete.
