First off the TM I am reviewing was not even on the selection list. It was outside of Pittsburgh PA on Aug 30 2015. Liked the course. Managed ok. Second TM for me and first for my three kids that I registered. Wife came as a spectator. Add the $10 plus tax to park in a grass field and I was well over $600. If I would not have pre registered and signed up that weekend it would have topped $1000. My sons girl friend was not pre registered and it cost her over $40 to show up just to watch......that is just BS. The Tough Mudder is just outrageously over priced. All along I felt I was at least benefitting the Wounded Warrior program....after a little research the evening after the last event I found they contribute nothing to the WW program. Will never regret doing it because the experience will last a life time but with the same money I could take my family to the ocean for a three day weekend. Should not be long before the masses catch on participation drops. Maybe then the cost to participate will fall.

The race itself was a great challenge with interesting obstacles, of the 100’s of races I have participated in this event seemed more of a cash grab for your money than anything else - $10 to check bag, $10 to park, $125+ to register, $20 to bring a spectator (plus on-line fees for all or double the price on day of) and you are not even given a bottle of water or food (only beef jerky and protein bar - is a banana or apple too much to ask) after the 2+ hour event! Only food was for sale but I have to admit it was reasonably priced as well as 1 free beer, for sales beer was also reasonable priced. No finishers medal, only a cotton finisher t-shirt with an orange headband and hand towel. The course was challenging for those who might have no experience with trail running. Some of the obstacles were interesting, but some were just piles of mud and not really challenging just dirty. One obstacle was to carry a fellow participant on your back for 25 yards then switch positions (seems a greater chance of injury). The event requires a lot of teamwork which can be difficult if you are alone. Most participants are teams of young millennials. (Great to see young people dismiss the prevailing ideas that they are out of shape and lazy). There was much media coverage of the dangers of this type of event, it seems to me the danger does not lie in the obstacles but in the participants. If you are not in shape for this or overzealous, you can get severely injured. Only saw one male on crutches after the event
Would I attend again, well the race was fun, but it seemed like money-grabbing for very little in return for your dollar. So I probably won't attend a Tough Mudder run event again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. Perhaps try an obstacle race organized by a different group. I have done Spartan Stadium Races, Warrior Dashes and Men’s Health Urbanathon.

Just completed Yorkshire tough mudder at Broughton hall. This was our first time on a tough mudder course and maybe our last. Positives were the course was good and well laid out ( apart from one point where a herd of sheep decided to stampede the runners ) Negative points ( oh the negative points ) was water stations running out of cups and some unfriendly marshalls. These events are about pushing yourself and other's to be better. If you haven't got it in you to be positive, helpful and encouraging don't volunteer. Long waiting time 20 mins at some obstacles, again poor marshalling. Parking fees were £15 per car, bit excessive ( and tried to charge us twice ). Spectators £20 per person, considering they paid £15 to park and were going to spend money on food, drink etc etc little bit embarrassing to charge we thought. Maybe a nominal fee (£3-5) would be more appropriate. My two little boys are 7 and 5 and on the day the steward asked if they had ID? Oh and apparently my service photo card isn't government issue ( though I work for the government ). Bag drop stated £3 on website and on info pack but turned out to be £5 on the day. We then had the great idea of putting one bag in the other thus only paying for one bag. Ha ha the gestapo bag police wouldn't allow that. One person one bag?. Changing tent too small. Wash station ran out of water.
Could go on but they were the biggest issues for us. We were going to make it a family day out but just came home instead when we finished the course. Disappointing and embarrassing for a major event like this. Probably going to stick with Total warrior, No ego and Spartan. Happy to pay but expect what I pay for.

This is my second time doing it, I have an awesome team that together we maid it. all the problem is with the Logs obstetrical. it was painful. this year 4 of my team members including me finished with shoulder injuries because the logs were very big . I just wish that when they set the obstetrical keep in mind the small groups.

This is the a poorly managed, over priced, and over hyped race. The course was set around a parking lot and horse stables in Virginia. We had a start time of 9am on Sunday and were corralled until 9:40am. It was a heat advisory day and we went by water misting stations that were not equipped with water. The bag check fee of $10 is ridiculous. At the end we were told that they were out of size medium shirts and the shirts themselves were really cheap and ugly. They used to give Under Armor shirts and have Under ARmor as their sponsor. For $165 a ticket - this race is not worth it!!!! I complained to the company and they said that they put less money in the shirts and more money in the course. Really lame. Not much money was put into the course from what I saw. The obstacles were not as depicted in the videos. /

Very well organised as usual for UK Tough Mudder events, this is the 2nd for me and found it very interesting having to deal with new obstacles which keeps it fresh. Cant fault the Tough Mudder UK event teams, parking, medical facilities, course, marshalls were all excellent.

This was my first Mudder. It was a good time. The Tough Mudder HQ was very informative with updates, emails, text messages. I felt I always knew what was going on! The parking was pretty bad - mother natures fault! The venue was good, well marked and laid out well. They had a warm up area and a wall you had to climb to make it to the start line! No time available becuase its all about team work and finishing! The others on the course were awesome and a lot of help! The atmosphere was very inspiriing with wounded vets taking part. The obstacles were far apart (but reading about the venue prior to, I knew they would be, its an athletic event) The staff..... AWESOME!!!! Very supportive and encouraging! The after party was great, got the famous head band and a t-shirt. The only thing I would change would be the beer given right after you cross. Plus I wont do a Sunday 2nd day race. Need that first day course! Makes for a better rest day prior to work! Overall a 4, and a very very good time! Thank you TMHQ!!! See you next year! and hopefully at the WTM!!

First and last Tough Mudder experience. Organizers of this event must be trying to bankrupt the company. Abysmal organization of registration, transportation, bag drop, communication. Delays of >1.5 hours due to organization failure. Spectators get nothing for their fees. Massive cash grab with very little value for participants or spectators. No timing, no food at the end, no awards, what do the excessive fees cover?? Rain all day added to the mud, and no one can complain about what cannot be controlled, but the cutting of corners in planning and preparation will cost the TM loss of repeat participants. Seriously you need to find another challenge course than TM. Would not recommend to others unless you enjoy waiting hours to throw cash into a mud pit.

Finally, this event was very unsafe while on the hill - the path was marked with metal bars sticking out of the ground which racers had to dodge while running down a rain-soaked mud-covered ski hill...talk about liability waiting to happen. Would I attend again, well the race was fun, but it seemed like money-grabbing for very little in return + the pre- and post-race was not athlete-friendly at all, so I probably won't attend a Tough Mudder run event again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. Perhaps try an obstacle race organized by a different group.

Our son invited us to Tuff Mudder in Seattle last year. It was amazing I thought it couldn't get any better then we went to Tuff Mudder Portland this past weekend. Our two grandsons participated with their dad and the other "Mudder What" team members for the first time. It was amazing to watch the team work, compassion and commitment every participant showed. These events bring the best out in everyone who participates and comes as a spectator. It is a time of realizing there is more in life than yourself, that working together we can achieve so much more. The support for our wounded warriors is the most noble of causes. If were not for our military men, women, and their families we would not know the freedom we have today. I look forward to Tuff Mudder Seattle next month.
