First years are always tuff. Course better marked this year. Better timing as well timing mat at start (timing company brought wrong set up) There are going to be proper ropes on obstacles . There are a few more obstacles and a rig supplied by a company. Always try to listen to racers to make it better every year. . Course will be a bit more competitive. Put together by volunteers and sponsors that will all work together to make it more exciting every year.
This race was ok for a family event but not for the competitive racer. It has potential but needs a lot of work. The course was not well marked. I'm not sure why they didn't put a sign at the junction where you had to split between the long course and the short course. There was no timing mat at the start of the race and the start had no clock and you didn't know what wave the starter was actually starting. He would just say, OK, we will start the next 10. That doesn't work with no timing mat. The volunteers didn't monitor anything and lots of teenagers just ran right by the obstacles without even trying. The home-made rig was way to low even for a short person. Slippery plastic cord to climb onto containers was dangerous. Registration needs work...make the waiver available online and have more than 1 person crossing names off the list. My kid did not race for free..I had to pay. All of these things are easily fixable so I'm sure it will be better next year. The medal and t-shirt were nice. The fire hose to clean off the mud at the finish was awesome.
2016 Race
Very good race, for a good cause and a good effort into getting young children involved in the sport. Kids raced free, which was a great idea and many participated. A few small issues, but I addressed them with staff and they were very positive and made me feel like I had an input into next year's event. I am excited to participate again next year and invite many more friends.
