Mud Run?
Let me begin this by saying I've done many smaller runs (none of them mud runs) so I was excited to try a mud run! My 2 girlfriends and I were pumped to do this! We made tu-tus, dressed up and were prepared for a great time. We parked at a nearby public park because it's TWELVE dollars to park where Lozilu wanted us to park (complete greed). Why? Because they closed the entire parking lot of the park to anyone. We could have all parked there for free, just saying. When we showed up, check in was easy, bag check was easy and within 10 minutes we were on our way!
Why a low rating? Because there is no way in HELL this race was worth the $70.00 price ticket. No way. The course was completely lackluster, there was 1 photographer at one stationary post and all of the "obstacles" besides the 15ft tangled rope crawl and inflatable water slides were rickety CRAP. There was nothing special about this. Nothing. At the end we weren't even acknowledged and we had to get our own medals. The medals are CRAP and very cheaply made. There was no award for best costume, not really a fun atmosphere and the announcing man seemed more interested in hitting on people than acknowledging finishers. The only "mud" is the last mud crawl right before the finish line. I don't know, it just wasn't what I was expecting and I was very disappointed. If I'd paid $20 bucks for this, I would have been satiated, now $70 (after a coupon), nope. This just wasn't a great experience like I'd hoped. Oh, and by the way, they claim the race is to support cancer patients but on their website it says on the bottom in fine print that only FIVE PERCENT goes to the cause. This is a ripoff.
So-so... good for real novices
This was the 7th mud run I've ever done (have done Tough Mudder, Spartan, Warrior, Rugged Maniac, etc). This was my first LoziLu. I ran this one in costume with 7 girls who had never done a mud run. Let me start with the pros: check-in and parking was well organized. The music was good. The zumba warm up was fun.
Now the cons: I really would not recommend this race to anyone interested in running a 5K obstacle course. The course itself was boring and flat. No natural mud, just trucked in stuff. (they say that's a good thing. I beg to differ). Even the novices were saying "I can't wait to do a race that's more difficult and challenges me" halfway through the course. The volunteers were not good at keeping the lines at the obstacles moving. We waited in line for 40 MINUTES for the inflatable slide.
I have never paid for a race where you did not get a shirt or a free beer. The tote is cute, but for the price I would expect a tote AND a shirt. For example, at Warrior Dash you get a shirt, a beer, a medal AND a fuzzy viking hat. And you get your butt kicked. Just because we are women doesn't mean we can't handle obstacles. And I'm no lush, but obstacle courses are synonymous with free beer. If they were like "we don't believe in alcohol"... fine. But they SELL BEER on site!
Save your money and do Rugged Maniac if you're looking for a challenge. The obstacles are more plentiful, the natural terrain was better, the free beer is flowing, and the shirt is always high quality and cute. It's the little things that matter.
Also I've never run a race where you have to pay for the professional pictures. Never. A 6 dollar download when I already paid for the race, paid for parking, paid for my damn Lime-a-Rita, paid for a shirt (I didn't, but hypothetically) and I don't even have a bruise to prove it?
This was my first race and our team had a really great time. The issue I have is that the obstacles were not put together in a safe manner. The metal tubing/pipes used should be covered with protective foam, as some of us bashed our shins against them on the one obstacle. The other problem we noticed was that on all of the wooden obstacles, the bolts holding them together were huge and totally exposed. We witnessed one girl fall off and severely gash her thigh open on one, spilling blood and fat out down her leg. One of the girls on my team almost had the same thing happen, but luckily the bolt caught her pants and just tore those and she walked away with a bruise instead of stitches. The obstacles are easy, but one wrong step and you can get pretty banged up and injured. We also all commented on how unsafe the actual running path was, being that there were tree stumps and holes all over the place. I would definitely do another one, but I would be extra careful.
This was my first mud run. It was fun to get out with the girls, but simply, this activity/event was a dud. The obstacles were easy and few. The 'water' slide was dry. Worst of all, I found out later that very little of the proceeds go to the cause--5%! Really?! Honestly, I think that is a disgrace, Needless to say, I would not do it again.
It was my very 1st 5K run (and for my bestie). We both had fun with the obstacles and the whole concept. And yay for girl power! Ladies helping each other left and right. Clear direction. The photos we purchased were awesome memory keepers. Wonderful "fight cancer" fundraising event.
Which makes me feel a bit terrible about having to share my thoughts below.
But there are Buts...
Water Slide obstacle...but no water...so you're sliding down dry...talk about plastic burn
You shouldn't have such shaky wood obstacles...we watched a woman fall down because everyone was teeter tottering so they added pieces at the bottom to make it more sturdy while women were still standing on them. Uhhhh that should've already been in play.
The supposed party oasis stops? Just water cups handed out and a stereo boombox (shaking head).
The World Famous Snack Drawer? Was a Joke! Just a water bottle & banana...where are these so called chips, cookies, candies you speak of so you can cheat on your diet?
Beer, wine, after party? Must've been somewhere far far away in La La Land so we didn't get to be part of that party.
You guys could use more vendors.
Our Swag...so we were able to get our medal & headband at the race...but our towels & totes? We are told they're delayed. Then we get multiple emails telling us pick up at certain LA locations (we live in the OC!) so we are expected to make a drive using our gas to pick up items that should've been at the race!! Our compensation is 25% off photo purchases for the delay. Then the FINAL blow...the government has indefinitely held the products in customs because of some other shipment it arrived with. Where in the world did you order our stuff?! We should've been compensated with replacement swag.
Which equaled to paying way too much ($65 and that was buying early & with a coupon discount). This was a real disappointment that left a bad taste in our mouth for future Lozilu events.
Lozilu needs to get themselves together
The Lozilu Mud Run is WAY OVERPRICED for a mud run of this caliber. It was at the Rose Bowl but they had really cheap obstacles (tacky, dirty, flimsy) on the course and the entire event screamed "CHEAP!" Which is not a problem normally since it's all about fun, but when you're paying that kind of money, you expect quality.
Right before the date of our run we were informed that our swag bags wouldn't be ready for about three weeks. We received another email a week later saying that we have to pick up our swag at various locations around Southern California.
About a week later another email comes through saying that we will not receive some of our swag at all (the beach towels) because they're having production issues and government issues. What?!!! If they're not going to give us what we paid for (yes, our swag is the reason a lot of us paid the high price for this mud run and the swag is included in ticket price, it's not a freebie) then they need to give us a little money back or another freebie or something. They shouldn't just say, "Ooops, sorry!" Not professional. Skip this mud run and go with a better company.
Okay fun, but way too expensive
This was a 5k with obstacles, not your typical full on mud run - only 2 mud pits doesn't compare to the other mud runs I've done (but I knew this going in looking at the course map) The registration price was comparable to other 5k/fun runs, but then to have to pay $20 for parking and I just ordered my pictures… $3.95 for a 4x6 picture! Really? I had a good time with my daughter but this was not worth the BIG price tag in the end.
Looking for a good mud run? Try Muckfest! A much better price and includes food and soda/beer with your registration price... and MUCH MORE MUD.
Had an awesome time! Loved all the obstacles. I can't wait for the next one!
Had a great time!
This was my very first mud run and it was so much fun! The organizers were wonderful and the obstacles were perfect for beginners. Can't wait to sign up for another one!
This was my first ever 5k/mud run event and it was GREAT!! Definitely a nice introduction. Friendly people, fun obstacles and the snacks wee appreciated!
