At the Front of the Line
Being an owner of an OCR Training gym and an avid OCR competitor, I've participated in tons of OCR's, many of whom were only in their infancy. The experience that myself and members of my team who both participated or volunteered were awarded was truly something to behold for any race, much less a local groups inaugural event.
Frontline OCR was as organized, if not more so, than some of the much bigger race companies that have been at this for years. From parking to volunteer distribution at obstacles and water stations, the careful planning of Ed and his crew was as evident as the time put in to the course challenge and obstacle safety.
Having the most unique approach to an OCR to date with their blitzkrieg event to decide the winners was the icing on the cake for an event that already stepped outside the norm and into their own realm by dressing their elite athletes in weighted vest instead of wristbands. This in itself properly summarized the difficulty and fun of their signature approach in addition to their inclusion of both an endurance and open class to take on their warped walls, irish tables and Platinum Rig, just to name a few. Endurance athletes, while not equipped with a vest, earned a dog tag for each lap completed.
Throughout the distance of this well developed and challenging 5 mile course you could see members of the Frontline crew eagerly running around and systematically communicating, passionately concerned for their racers safety, compliance and course's completion.
The medals, t-shirts and race swag was top notch as well, and never once during my 3 laps of my endurance run, did I ever get the feeling that this was anyone's first attempt at an OCR race. As an owner of a facility which boasts many of it's own obstacles, I have a huge amount of respect for the commitment of time, finance and planning that goes into the development of an OCR training facility, much less an actual race and am unbelievably impressed with what Frontline was able to pull off.
There were literally parts of the race that I was saying out loud to my wife "how did they do this and get it so right the first time?"
In closing, I would highly recommend Frontline OCR to anyone that missed out on their inaugural race, and confidently persuade them to pursue any of Frontline's future endeavors whether races or workouts. Their military and first responder approach and appreciation commands the highest respect, and their race is a proper representation of respect to them both.
