This was my 5th CTG race. This is my favorite race series, hands down. The obstacles are challenging that some are hard to complete. The family that runs it is nice too. Their focus is more on obstacle difficulty and less on just getting muddy. This is a race that ever OCR fan needs to travel and do at least one.
Responding to the 1-star reviews:
Red Stank must have a beef with the race owner to be so negative. Nothing he says is true - about the medals, their shirts (which have won design awards), and the friendliest pro-team you'll meet.
April "obstacles ridiculously easy"... she must be talking about one of the entry level races she ran because "easy" is not CTG.
Best Ever
It is one of the best ever!!!!! It has everything!!!!! Loved it!!! Will be back!!!
CTG is Awesome
Absolutely love love this race. Talk about having grit and not giving up on the obstacles. The obstacle are there to break you down and beat you up but great comradery you can push thru and conquer. I had so much fun I plan on running the next race in Tulsa. Sign up for this race you will love it.
Tips: practice grip strength bc they have ANW obstacles.
Fun, unique, fair price
I absolutely LOVED this race and the course. Lots of unique obstacles I had never seen at any other OCR or mud run. I loved the overall presence/feel of the event- family friendly, everyone was welcoming, great community. Was a great deal for 20+ obstacles you can almost always sign up for $40 to $60 bucks, and there are not tons of added on fees. I will run this up every year for sure!
Worth the Money
This was my fourth CTG and about my 30th obstacle challenge. I've not done Spartan but have done Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniacs and Tough Mudder. CTG is the only that has obstacles I could not conquer... that's part of what I love about it.
I've found organizational quality varies considerably at CTG. The one near Wichita in 2018 was the worst on that point: no parking lot directors/attendants, too few toilets, no food vendors, no beer stands, delayed start. The others have been okay. For me, the greater number of obstacles, the slightly longer distance and the cost of registration make it a good value.
Complete Joke
I’ve done CTG every year since they hit the Texas circuit. Recently they’ve declined to the point that it’s an absolute joke. The entire CTG brand is nothing more than being stuffed up some trashy trailer home schooled female. Because of this the venues suffered, the schedule suffers, the customer pays the price. They want to charge the same price as elite OCR races for half the support, zero customer interaction, trash medals and I do mean throw always, not to mention the crappiest t-shirts on the market. The 2 originators were fan friendly at one point, and now they totally ignore their bread and butter. The CTG pro’s, who are half ashed at best are arrogant and unfriendly, yet there are literally dozens of pedestrian racers who can beat them.... and do. Will never recommend not will I spend another dime on CTG.

Not exactly for the weekend warrioe
The race was challenging, lots of upper body, lots of walls, but anyone who did their homework would know that. I really enjoyed this race, the obstacles are extremely well made and not once did I get to the top and think "if one more body gets up here it may collapse". Race was well organized and there wasn't the bottle neck you get at many races. You could tell the organizers put time and effort in laying out the obstacles so distance was created. Only gripe is no changing tents at the end of the race. Would totally do it again in a heartbeat.
tough
Toughest race I've done to date. Perfect distance (4 miles) and lots of tough obstacles with a good amount of mud. You better have your nuts screwed on tight when you do this race.
Would not recommend this event, EVER!!! Most of the obstacles were unattended by staff or volunteers, there was zero mud throughout the course, the signage was terrible leaving racers confused as to which way to go and over half of the 'obstacles' were ridiculously easy (and stupid). Also, NO medical staff at the site...ie, no ambulance or fire truck anywhere on the property. How do I know this? A girl fell from the top of an obstacle and there was no staff anywhere around to ask to call for help. One of the fellow racers had to run to the starting line to ask someone to call an ambulance and 15 minutes later the fire dept showed up with the ambulance about 8 minutes behind them! CTG is REQUIRED to have medical staff present at their event, PERIOD!
Now lets talk food. You know, the "plenty of items available for purchase" that they tout on their website? There was ONE food truck stocking corn dogs and funnel cakes which apparently was stocked for the state fair. No beer stands as stated in my runners packet, not one. Actually, there were no drink stands at all - there was the ONE fair food truck and ONE snow cone truck.
There you have it folks. If you want to spend your money on this race then go for it, but you have been warned. They will not get my money again. Warrior Dash and Spartan Race kick Conquer the Gaunlet's butt all day long!
