Ready, Steady, Bog!! What lies in front is a course with an abundance of obstacles and challenges, so get stuck in!
We will be emailing you a copy of the course before the race. This
will only have the names of the challenges/obstacles, you will not find
out what you will be doing along the route until you are competing.
Please look at the course before the event so that you will understand
which arrows you will have to follow - the course has a series of loops,
so you will follow different coloured arrows for each loop.
The course will be open until 3.30pm.

Course Description:
The Turf Guy course will be approx 10km long but don’t let this short
distance fool you into thinking that it won’t test your endurance!
We have built lots of elements throughout the course which tested
your fitness, endurance, mental strength..........! As it was a long
winter and a very wet summer we have had a lot of spare time to come up
with more weird and wonderful elements, so you never know what you might
find around the corner this year!!!
There is approx an 5km run/jog at the beginning of the course to
spread out the field of competitors and reduce the congestion at certain
elements. However please be aware that there may be a little wait at
some elements, if waiting you can either help fellow competitors
complete the obstacle of just watch them struggle! Expect to be running
through the energy sapping Connemara bog, jumping into the pure waters
of Killary Fjord and scrambling over many an obstacle put in your path!
Please be warned that your clothing will get extremely wet and dirty.
You do not need any special skills for the course but will need some
upper body strength for some elements of the course, and must be
comfortable in waist deep water.
Also you will be climbing through, under and over trees, fallen
trees, climbing ropes, jumping off obstacles and much more so you
may receive cuts, bruises and grazes.
We highly reccommend that you wear full body cover, not just shorts
and T shirt..........also it will be November so it may be a bit
nippy!!
Aid Stations:
Water at transition points
Spectators:
We will have a number of areas that spectators are welcome to watch the action. These will be marked on the map but we do ask that you listen to marshals and stand well back from the challenges. Spectators will not be allowed to drive on any section of the course, no matter what the weather is like.
Parking:
We will have parking available at the centre so please follow marshals instruction and do not park on the road side outside the centre unless told to do so. We please ask that you car pool and if you are staying at Sleepzone hostel that you walk to the start/finish line - this will take about 10 mins to walk. This road to sleepzone will be closed while the race is running.
Post Party:
As Halloween is only a few days before the event, and with the great success of last years, we are going to keep up the tradition we started and have a Fancy Dress for the after party! This years' theme is going to be "B" for Bog, so get those thinking caps on! We will have lots of prizes on the night for Best Dressed, Most Original etc. The party will be held at the K2 centre just outside Leenane.
Other:
You do not need to swim to enter Turf Guy but you do need to be comfortable in the water. There are no long distances to swim however Turf Guy will involve a Cliff jump into the sea, for the non-swimmers we will provide a bounancy aid to be worn. (You can also take the escape route and wade in the water along the shore line rather than jumping in)
There will be other areas along the course where you will be in water but if you are not happy you can take the wading option.
You also have the choice of wearing a BA in the Gorge as parts of this can be quite deep - this will not count as taking the non swimmer option.
Again it is important to note that you must be comfortable in the water to do this event.
Due to insurance reasons we cannot accept anyone under the age of 18 into any of our events. All participants must be 18 years old on the date of the event.
