Race Start Time:
Beginning at 8:30a.m, runners are released every 15 minutes at 30 runners at a time. Last heat departs during the 2:00pm hour. First two hours (8:30 and 9:30) will be competitive heats or competitive team heats.

Course Description:
The MAR takes place on semi-flat land on the banks and in the New River in Virginia’s Mountain Playground. With 25+ obstacles ranging from beams, to rope swings, and the mud pit, contestants are engaged in a manic 5K till the end. The website has an interactive map that shows obstacle names and will be updated with pictures to strike fear into prospective challengers. The youth mud pit, with parent supervision, will be fun, messy, and gritty for the little ones as well.
Aid Stations:
Paramedics and emergency personnel will be on hand. Water and showers available as well.
Spectators:
Entry to the race area and Vendor Village are free. There is plenty of course to see at main gate area. Hayrides will be offered to get spectators out onto the course. No walking by spectators is allowed openly on course.
Parking:
Plenty of parking available. Parking is free.
Other:
The proceeds from this event support the Access to Community College Education (ACCE) Program in Giles County, a County and New River Community College partnership. Giles County is the first locality in the New River Valley to participate in the “Access to Community College Education” initiative. ACCE is a public/private partnership that makes college available tuition-free to graduates from Giles County by covering the cost of tuition for two years at New River Community College. ACCE supports as many students as possible based on student need and funds available for the program. With your support, students will graduate from NRCC prepared to join the workforce or transfer to a four-year university without college debt. The Facts: High School/Private School/Home School students who graduate with a 2.5 GPA qualify. Students must first apply for financial aid (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in order to participate. The program supports as many eligible students as possible based on financial need and funds available. Students will be required to attend an ACCE informational session. Student must maintain full-time enrollment of 12 credits in fall/spring semesters. Funds will not support more than 15 credits in fall/spring semesters. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA at NRCC. Students must pay for their own textbooks. Students must enroll in a degree or certificate program that meets federal financial aid requirements. Students must take a college success skills course during their first semester enrolled at NRCC. Students may not take online courses during the first semester, except “College Success Skills.” It is strongly recommended that students do not work the first semester to ensure greater academic success. Students are required to participate in one Giles County community service project each semester. Your participation in the MAR secures future classes of ACCE students live their dream of continuing their education.
