Don’t Sleep on Local Events!

By |October 19th, 2017|

We’re all fans of Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash, and BattleFrog (RIP), but there’s a type of race that can never really compare to the massive marketing Goliaths taking over the obstacle course racing world. This type of race continues to entertain both competitive and everyday mud runners who crave the next challenge but are not ready to drop another 200 bucks to play in the mud.

Last Week Tough Mudder sent out a blog to their World's Toughest Mudder athletes changing the prize structure for the team events. Below is from Tough Mudder HQ and an open letter for professional obstacle racer Miguel Medina.

Spartan Race: Building bladder strength and stamina. Do YOU have what it takes?

By |October 16th, 2017|

Spartan Race is a magical experience. You truly get to channel your inner-warrior and put your limits to the test. I love Spartan Race for this and have done nearly 40 events with them.  But what if “putting your limits to the test” was also a test of your bladder strength? Is this acceptable?

The Resolutioners Recap

By |October 12th, 2017|

For a bit of context, let's start out with a little bit about me. I finished off 2012 at the doctors, sick and obese in horrible health. I knew I needed to do something about it so I set a 2013 resolution to get healthy and loose some weight. Fast forward, I've lost almost 75lbs and had a child in 2015.

Opinion: Why People Love OCR and Why Others are Taking a Step Back

By |September 14th, 2017|

I have often wondered why people are getting into the OCR sport, or why those that used to love it and did as many races as possible, are now stepping away from the sport or retiring.

Opinion: Surviving Cumulative Micro-Trauma to Thrive in OCR

By |September 7th, 2017|

On August 17, two critical articles appeared in the OCR news. Make sure to read Mark Barosso’s article in MRG and Amelia Boone’s article in her blog. Now I want you to look beyond the celebrity and turn your attention to little old me and you.

OCR Training with an Unlimited Budget: The People

By |August 31st, 2017|

Obstacle Course Race (OCR) training and racing can be expensive, there is no question there. But what if…you had an unlimited budget to spend on OCR?  What would your training look like if the cost was not a concern?  Here is my take on what OCR training looks like with an unlimited budget.

OCR: Too Much Supply, Too Little Demand?

By |August 23rd, 2017|

Obstacle Racing has continued to grow exponentially over the years. As of Saturday, August 19 at 10:20 pm, there are five Spartan Race Production Teams on the road setting up for races this coming weekend. According to the Mud Run Guide race calendar, a total of about 41 races on Saturday and 10 races on Sunday are scheduled around the world. At what point do we have to wonder, how many races are too many races in a weekend?
