2018 Spartan World Championships – Lake Tahoe, CA

By |October 3rd, 2018|

For the fourth year in a row, the Spartan World Championships were held in beautiful North Lake Tahoe, CA, specifically Squaw Valley Ski Resort. This was my second time here (last year being my first), and, in my opinion, it did not disappoint.

Why I Saw a Running Coach

By |September 25th, 2018|

In the past year, or so, I've been upping my OCR game: more events, longer events, and more miles. For the most part, things have gone smoothly. I like to think that I'm pretty in tune with my body and that I'm a good listener when it comes to hearing what my body needs. Like most of us, I have a full-time job, kids, and other responsibilities that limit my training opportunities, but I do the best I can with what I have.

OCR Spotlight: Richard Diaz

By |September 18th, 2018|

If you've run even a handful of races, or are part of one of the countless OCR-specific groups on social media, then you've probably heard his name. But who exactly is Richard Diaz? Diaz is the mastermind behind Diaz Human Performance.

Terrain Race Inland Empire

By |September 7th, 2018|

When I heard that Terrain Race was undergoing some changes (supposedly for the better), I'll admit...I got excited. I've run a couple of their events in the past few years, and always felt like they had the potential to be better than they actually were. I decided to put this theory to the test at last weekend's Terrain Race Inland Empire, in San Bernardino, CA.

Gladiator Rock N’ Run 2018 – Pasadena, CA

By |August 30th, 2018|

It's billed as the 'Rumble at the Rose Bowl'. Every year for the past seven years, Dan 'Nitro' Clark (of American Gladiator fame) brings his Gladiator Rock 'N Run to Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and I've had the pleasure of participating for the last three. Always a fun event, Dan strives to make sure the participants always have a good time, and there's a fun, family atmosphere at the venue. This year was no exception.

Gear Review: Human Octane Men’s Elite Compression Shorts

By |June 28th, 2018|

I have a confession to make: I'm not much for compression gear. I know that might sound strange, considering that I'm about to review it, but, honestly, that's why I'm the perfect candidate to do so. I've spent most of my four-plus years involved in OCR and trail running, wearing loose, comfortable fitting shorts.

Race Review: 2018 Warrior Dash – Chino, California

By |March 30th, 2018|

Having participated in a handful of Warrior Dash events over the last few years, I was interested to see what they would bring to the table at this, the first SoCal area race in 2018. For the most part, I was not disappointed.
