2017 Icebug Acceleritas5 First Test

By |March 22nd, 2017|

The upper materials have been updated to a super soft and airy textile, so light and smooth it feels like being barefoot. The water pickup is minimal, the drainage is excellent and hence the wet weight is almost as low as when it’s dry. The midsole is very flexible and keeps the weight down. The height of the heel cup is slightly reduced in order to reduce pressure at the Achilles tendon. Terrain feel is remarkable thanks to the low profile of the sole.

TomTom Adventurer GPS – First Look & Quick Test

By |March 15th, 2017|

In this first test, I just checked the GPS and pace quickly, but really was geeked up to test out the wireless headphones. Setup was simple & straightforward, the menu is as simple as humanly possible, just click the square button below the screen in one of the 4 directions, you can figure just about any function out with no instructions necessary.

Run. Every. Day. (It’s easier than you think!)

By |March 10th, 2017|

If running were always as simple as "just run" then it would be simple enough for all of us to "just run", right? Instead, we add GPS, PR's, Pace, VO MAX, Negative Splits, Tempo Runs, Fartleks, Hill Repeats, and even #$^%* Wreck Bags to the mix in order to keep running interesting. To put it another way, running apparently isn't crazy enough for some of us by itself, somehow "runners" need to make it completely over-the-top insane to keep motivated. WTH?

After much work and discussion, we, along with BONEFROG, the OCR World Championships, and the USOCR Championships, have reached the following solution: BONEFROG will hold their event on April 29 in Austin, Texas. Conquer The Gauntlet will hold our event on October 21, at YO Ranch HQ.

Gear Review: Mudgear Compression & 1/4 Crew Trail Socks

By |March 2nd, 2017|

I've been testing Mudgear Compression Socks and 1/4 Trail Socks for quite some time now, and they've become my go-to sock for everyday activities, training, & racing. Heck, I'm even wearing them now while writing this!

Alpine Dam: This Hat’s a Real “Lifesaver”

By |February 21st, 2017|

There is a level of energy that people exhibit when training, working out or racing that is inspiring. You may see that person running in the rain or heading to the gym before work on the coldest day of the year. Alpine Dam takes inspiration from those people and moments. Whether someone is on a surfboard or a bike, that energy is almost contagious when you see their joy and their level of concentration. Oh, and I didn't die

SmashPlan: Plan… SMASHED!

By |February 9th, 2017|

My 30-day goal kicked off on January 10 and ran through February 8. Starting weight was 168 lbs, and my target weight was 158 lbs. I was not concerned with BMI, BMR, lean muscle mass, or the size of my waist – my goal was simply to drop 10 pounds with a balanced diet including (2) SmashPacks a day and 30 minutes/day of bodyweight exercises, daily walks or bike rides, and a few short runs per week - How'd I do?

SmashPlan – Final Days of a Great Journey

By |February 7th, 2017|

the entire 30-day SmashPlan has been fun and relatively easy overall; every day I have enjoyed the convenience of grabbing a SmashPack pouch no matter where I'm headed. Breakfast has been on autopilot for the past month, I don't need to think about what I should eat, and there's been no reason to grab a muffin or breakfast sandwich at a drive thru when I have a nutritious meal right there in my cupholder.

BONEFROG Goes Super (Bowl)

By |February 3rd, 2017|

Mud Run Guide has been battle-central over the last 2 weeks, as soon as The Pats (easily) ripped apart the Steel Curtain and The "Dirty Birds" squeezed the Cheeseheads, Chris and Brett have all but turned into bitter enemies. You see, Mr. Stewart hails from New England while Mr. Lewis makes his home in Atlanta. The tension is palpable, and conference calls have become verbal warfare with jabs from both sides - win or lose, things may never be the same again.
