Course Description:
THE BATTLEGROUNDS is St. Louis' largest permanent mud run obstacle course with 30 plus obstacles.Obstacles are military themed and will require physical fitness. Obstacles will include running, jumping, crawling, splashing, swinging, climbing 25 feet in the air & traversing varying terrains, including a creek. You will get muddy! It will be physically demanding. Are you up for the challenge?
The run’s obstacles, which vary each year to ensure new challenges, include the signature Torpedo Launcher, a 100-foot water slide that empties into a 12-foot deep water pit. Other highlights include The Gauntlet, which is six lanes of varying difficulties situated over an eight-foot deep water pit. The Battlegrounds incorporates all types of terrains including creeks, woods, fields and valleys that add to the intense level of competition.
Battlegrounds Full Challenge: 5 mile
This challenge is the original 5 mile Mud Run, packed with 30+ obstacles to test your mental and physical endurance. Test your boundaries, your strength and how much mud you can handle in one day!
Cadet Course: 5k (3.2 mile)
If you’d rather get your feet muddy before trying the full Battlegrounds Challenge, then this is the race for you. Still tough, a little less intense, but tons of fun.
Aid Stations:
First Aid and paramedics will be on hand.
Fruit and water is provided at the finish.
Awards:
The 5 Mile ELITE WAVE is meant to be the most physically challenging experience for our participants with similar abilities. This option is only available at the 8:00 a.m. race time, so be sure to register as we are limited to 250 runners, including both individuals and 4-person teams, who can maintain an 8 minute 30-second mile pace. The ELITE WAVE is meant to be a competitive event. For the purpose of awarding medals we must keep each team at a consistent number (four). We offer start-to-finish chip timing to insure accurate timing for each participant.
The 5 Mile course is not only longer, it has more difficult terrain, and includes a few more obstacles and special surprises that will be unique to the ELITE WAVE. You will get 3 chances to correctly complete each obstacle as instructed by the obstacle captain. If you are unable to complete an obstacle, you (and your teammates) will be disqualified from receiving an award.

All participants must be 18 years of age or older.
Unlike its competition, The Battlegrounds features plenty of freebies including free spectator admission so guests can watch their loved ones from many course vantage points. Free parking, free gear check and a free kids’ mud zone area for children 12 and under are available, as well as the unusual amenity of on-site showers for mud run participants. Post-event activities include individual and group award presentations, a festival area with food and drinks, and walkable access to the adjacent Cedar Lake Cellars winery.
Proceeds from the mud run will benefit The Mission Continues, a national non-profit organization based in St. Louis that deploys military veterans into community service leadership roles at home. Its fellowship program involves post-911 veterans serving 20 hours a week for six months at a non-profit of their choice while completing a professional development curriculum. Its service platoon program has teams of veterans of all generations working alongside active duty, guard/reservists and non-veterans in communities to find solutions and make an impact on local challenges.
The Battlegrounds will hold a canned food drive at the race to benefit Operation Food Search, which was established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger in the St. Louis area. As the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state area, the organization distributes 2.75 million pounds of food and household essentials to nearly 300 community partner agencies.
The Battlegrounds will work with Funds2Orgs.com to collect and donate racer’s shoes to those in developing nations with proceeds benefitting The Mission Continues.
