Course Description:
This is the second mud run event held at Rio Lindo and it features completely redesigned 5k and 10k courses.
Nearly 20 unique, fun and challenging obstacles are positioned
throughout the course and consist of multiple terrain surfaces,
elevation changes, man-made and natural obstacles including parts of the
Russian River. Gorgeous views of the Russian River valley and
surrounding vineyards are just a few of the many perks offered at the
Russian River Mud Run.
5K Course: This is the full course for the 5k and the start of the 10k course.
Runner will experience road, gravel, dirt, riverbed, forest and orchard
terrain. If you participated in the first RRMR, this course will be
completely NEW. Three steep uphill elements are incorporated into this
course with two additional downhill elements. Mud-pits, roped terrain,
""The Beaches of Normandy"", river crossings, ""Sherwood Forrest"" and a
flooded orchard are a few of the obstacles runners will encounter. This
course finishes on the campus named “Killer Hill” which will be one of
the most difficult challenges of the course.
10K Course: Once these runners finish the 5k course they continue onto the last half
of the 10k course. Runners will quickly transition through the ""Big
Apple"" obstacle and into the riverbed portion of the course. Obstacles
on this part of the course include mud-pits, ""Log Jams"" and river
crossings. Runners will spend much of their time on the riverbed,
orchard and forrest sections of the course. Obstacles here include
downed trees, steep slopes, mud pits, log carries, roped courses
and ""Pits of Despair"". 10k finishers complete the course by once again
traversing “Killer Hill”.
The obstacle list for the 2012 course included:
- River Bale Bonds
- Slippery Slope
- Ultimate Slip and Slide
- Walk the Plank
- Sticks and Stones

Post Party:
Family Friendly Post-Race Fall Festival from 9:00am -12:00pm
Entrance is Free with Specator pass! Some activities are provided free of charge but there are a few that have a minimal fee such as food and some of the games. Activities include games, gunny sack races, bobbing for apples,
face-painting, pumpkin carving, food, costume contests, Kids obstacle
course, and more. This will
be a fun post-race festival for the whole family. Children are
encouraged to come and participate in the festivities as well as cheer
on their parents as they run.
Other:
We support Open Table, a community outreach project started in 2008 by Rio Lindo Adventist Academy.
Care should be taken to complete obstacles in the way
you are directed. Race Directors stationed at each obstacle will provide
instructions. Some obstacles have ropes that can be used if you feel
the terrain is too steep. Ropes do not have to be used but rather are
there for your safety. If obstacles cannot be competed, Race Directors
will give you further instructions.
What should you wear?
Shoes – normal running shoes. Cleats are not a good idea because of the
many different terrain surfaces. Some people recommend boots but these
can get heavy when they become wet and muddy.
Clothes – lightweight stuff that dries quickly. Clothes
should fit comfortably and not get loose or baggy after getting wet.
Even if it’s a cold day, heavy or thick clothing will just retain water
and make you colder. You should also bring a change of clothes for after
the event so you can enjoy the post-race festival.
Gloves – this one is more debatable. Some people swear by
them, others prefer to go glove-less (faster drying). If you go with
gloves, be sure to grab tough, thick ones to prevent burns from the
ropes and splinters from the walls.
The following amenities are available:
Showers: Showers will be provided for racers to wash off after the race (although you look so good in mud!)
Soap: Tecnu soap will be provided at the shower area. We strongly recommend that runners shower after the race to help prevent skin irritation.
Changing booths: Provided for runners change post race so they can enjoy the post-race festival.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available at the festival area.
Food: Runners will receive free pancakes after the
race. Festival goers can choose from pancakes and other food items for a
small charge.
