Football legend Randy Moss steps off the field and onto the gritty Spartan race course August 25, 2017, tackling the fire, barbed wire, and mud to raise money for the Spartan Foundation, which supports active, healthy lifestyles for kids and young adults. The “Spartan Sprint” course will feature more than 20 obstacles along three-miles of rugged terrain at the Summit Bechtel in Glen Jean, WV near Moss’ hometown of Rand.
“Spartan Races have motivated me to stay in shape, and I wanted to introduce that opportunity to the West Virginian communities that shaped me into the person I am today,” said Moss. “I’m passionate about helping others create healthy lifestyles especially kids, and the Spartan Foundation is all about creating opportunities for kids to get active and develop these values, so I’m honored to help raise money for such a worthy cause.”
Moss, a member of the Spartan “Trifecta” Tribe, has competed in multiple Spartan Race events and will join participants of all ages and skill-levels, lending a hand to help others overcome obstacles in their paths. The race kicks-off at noon and is followed by a reception with opportunities to meet and greet the former all-pro wide receiver. The race will be timed and participants who cross the finish line will receive a finishers medal and shirt, and qualify for the Spartan Trifecta if they also complete a “Super” and “Beast” race in the 2017 season.

“The Spartan Foundation is all keeping kids active, and instilling the value of healthy living at a young age, and we couldn’t think of a better way to support the cause, than hosting our challenging race with one of the greatest athletes to ever step foot on our Spartan Race course, and the football field,” said Spartan Race CEO Joe DeSena. “We love seeing Randy’s grit and determination when he competes and are grateful for his support and passion for the kids impacted by our cause.”
The Randy Moss Spartan Sprint for the Spartan Foundation will kick-off Spartan’s U.S. Championship Race Weekend, which will bring some of the best endurance athletes in the world to the Spartan Race Course for the finale of the competitive Spartan Obstacle Racing (OCR) series. In addition to the competition, open heats allow racers of all ages and skill levels to compete, along with a special Kids race for boys and girls four years old and up.
