BattleFrog College Championship Renewed by ESPN

The BattleFrog College Championship Returns Summer 2016 on ESPN

The family favorite BattleFrog College Championship will return to ESPN in Summer of 2016. The Black Knights of Army will return to defend their 2015 Championship and keep the coveted Trident Cup in West Point.

MIAMIFeb. 4, 2016PRLog — The popular BattleFrog College Championship will return for a second season on prime time on ESPN in June 2016. The show will once again feature 16 of America’s top college obstacle course racing teams going head-to-head to capture the coveted Trident Cup and a grand prize scholarship.

The College Championship was jointly created and produced by veteran TV sports content specialists 51 Dons and BattleFrog, the nation’s fastest growing obstacle race series. The show features a 350-meter, side-by-side co-ed relay across a challenging and exciting BattleFrog course. In Season 1, the Black Knights of the United States Military Academy took the Trident Cup home to West Point after a closely fought final against Ole Miss. West Point will return to defend their title in Season 2, anchored by standout performers Kayla Carpenter and returning Male MVP Danny Camacho.

Director Ron Luscinski said viewers can expect riveting coverage and a tight field:

“We were thrilled by the response to the first BattleFrog College Championship which earned more than two million viewers in its first week. The second season will feature new BattleFrog obstacles, expanded coverage and some truly spectacular athletes from the nation's top college teams, including several new schools who were able to crack the sixteen team field. Everyone is looking to beat the incredible times West Point posted on their amazing run, and the Black Knights are once again training hard to bring another Trident Cup to West Point. The competition is going to be intense from the first race ’til the last.”
BattleFrog CEO Ramiro Ortiz believes the show struck a chord in part because women make up more than half of OCR competitors.
“BattleFrog is about love of country, family, friends, fitness and the great outdoors. We loved hearing from so many families who told us it was their new favorite show and that they couldn’t stop watching! OCR is truly a co-ed sport. More than half of our competitors are talented women who come out to test the skills they built at the gym. We are very proud to have created a format that offered positive, powerful role models for families.”
Obstacle course racing is the fastest growing participation sport in the United States with 2015 attendance reported to be greater than marathons. The shows are an extension of the popular BattleFrog Series obstacle course race series which features 44 events throughout North America.
“We look forward to providing fans with coverage of this year's College Championship as we expand our relationship with BattleFrog,” said Daniel Ochs, Director of Programming & Acquisitions at ESPN.
